Progressive, Inclusive, and Resilient
The Forum for Onagi Development (FOD) is a community-oriented socioeconomic empowerment movement founded to galvanize the Onagi people, a vibrant sub-group of the Luo community, across Siaya, Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay counties, and the global diaspora.
We are a non-political forum dedicated exclusively to community development, social transformation, and long-term economic resilience.
About FOD: Identity & Purpose
Our Origin
FOD was founded at the historic 2017 Galamoro meeting at Enigma Resort, Kisumu, a gathering that laid the foundation for a non-political forum focused on critical discussion, economic empowerment, and social transformation of the Onagi community.
Our Mission
To serve as a non-political platform that drives critical discourse, mobilizes collective resources, and catalyzes economic and social transformation for every member of the Onagi community, at home and in the diaspora.
The 5 Pillars of the Movement
Food
Ensuring food security and agricultural transformation.
Clothing
Dignified living standards for all members.
Shelter
Access to affordable and decent housing.
Healthcare
Community health and wellness programs.
Education
Bursaries, scholarships, and skills development.
From "Talk Shop" to Action
FOD was inaugurated on 22 December 2017 at the Galamoro meeting held at Enigma Resort, Kisumu. Our movement was born from the realization that we needed to look at ourselves in the mirror and decide the trajectory of our social and economic future.
We moved beyond the limitations of early WhatsApp and Telegram discussions to create a robust, member-governed movement. Our defining rallying call is to stop being "fence sitters" and instead engage in practical, positive actions that empower our people.
The FOD-Rilakin Partnership
A unique feature of our movement is the deliberate separation of Community Governance (FOD) and Commercial Investment (Rilakin).
Forum for Onagi Development (FOD)
The movement itself. It governs our membership, administers the Welfare Fund, conducts community research, and manages our social agenda.
Rilakin International Limited
Our partner commercial vehicle. This private company limited by shares is the engine that drives our investment activities, managing the capital mobilized by our members.
The Dual-Track Capital Model
To ensure both inclusivity and investment stability, we operate a dual-track system.
Equity Shareholding
Active Full Members may acquire ordinary shares in Rilakin, conferring voting rights and dividend entitlement (capped to comply with legal shareholder limits).
Subscription Programme
A contractual programme for all members in good standing. Contributions here fund our economic initiatives and carry no equity risk, ensuring even those not in the shareholding track can participate in our growth.
Our Pillars of Development
Everything we do is focused on five fundamental pillars to improve the quality of life for all Onagi.
-
Food Agricultural modernization and value chain development (e.g., Sorghum, Cassava, Dairy, and Poultry).
-
Clothing Reviving local industries and manufacturing hubs.
-
Shelter Promoting sustainable housing and infrastructure.
-
Health Supporting access to quality healthcare and specialist facilities.
-
Education Supporting TIVET skills, academic excellence, and HR development.
We complement this with a focus on Behavior Change Management, using the IPC framework to foster a positive mindset, reduce dependency, and encourage entrepreneurship.
Governance & Accountability
We believe in transparency. FOD is governed by a clear hierarchy to ensure your contributions and ideas are safe.
-
The Galamoro Our supreme annual meeting where members vote on the movement's direction.
-
Liaison Committee The operational bridge between FOD and Rilakin. It ensures that Rilakin's investments align with FOD's social mission and that financial performance is reported quarterly.
-
Transparency Standards All contributions are processed through official bank accounts or M-Pesa PayBills. No cash is accepted, and all financial records are subject to annual audit and member review.
